The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State, has invited the immediate past Rector of the institution, Dr. Abubakar Abdul-Dzukogi, to appear before it to address some unresolved issues.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that this decision emerged at the end of the council’s meeting in Bida.
Briefing newsmen in Bida on Saturday, the Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Ismail Muazu-Hassan, stated that Dr. Abdul-Dzukogi was scheduled to appear on Friday.
“The council has extended an invitation to the former rector at its sitting on Friday, October 25, 2024.”
According to the Chairman, “After reviewing several matters, we decided to invite Dzukogi to come and share insights with us and provide clarification on certain points.
“However, the immediate past rector cited various reasons, including insufficient time to prepare and health challenges.
“In consideration of his reasons, we have granted him a 10-day extension to appear before us and address these unresolved issues.
“This is crucial for both him and us to set the records straight, as this council is committed to enhancing the academic and general operations of the Polytechnic,” the council chairman said.
Muazu-Hassan added that the former rector would be asked to account for his tenure.
He clarified that the council is not suggesting any wrongdoing but wants clarification on issues related to his eight-year administration.
“We are not delving into matters beyond his administration; we’re solely focused on his eight years of stewardship to ensure fair hearing,” he said.
Muazu-Hassan also assured that the current council would uphold high standards in all academic and extracurricular activities to maintain “Bida Standards.”
“We will not rest on our efforts in this regard. We are fully committed to the development of the institution,” he said.
He further assured the current leadership of the institution of the council’s support in advancing the Polytechnic’s goals.
He also commended the Federal Government for the Student Loan Scheme, describing it as one of the best initiatives for students in tertiary institutions.
