President Joe Biden on Saturday signed a temporary spending package, securing federal funding until mid-March and preventing a government shutdown despite the midnight deadline technically passed.

The bill, passed by the Senate earlier on Saturday following a bipartisan House vote on Friday evening, maintains the current level of government funding.

It also includes $100 billion for disaster relief in regions recovering from severe storms and $10 billion in direct aid for farmers.

“This agreement represents a compromise, which means neither side got everything it wanted. But it rejects the accelerated pathway to a tax cut for billionaires that Republicans sought, and it ensures the government can continue to operate at full capacity,” Biden said.

This legislation pushes the next funding deadline to early next year when Republicans will take control of both chambers of Congress.

President Biden’s swift approval of the measure ensured that government operations would continue uninterrupted.
