The journey of Bobrisky to Kirikiri is like one of the scenes in Ajakaju, still hard to believe the entire scenario from conceptualization to trial. What Bobrisky was charged for is confusing, and one needs to know whether he was charged for being a cross-dresser or Naira abuse. Of course, Nigerians need not to react if Bob was convicted for being a crossdresser.
People reacted to his trial based on Naira abuse because Bobrisky is not the first celebrity or personality to openly abuse Naira without consequence. It makes it look like a selective judgment for punishing someone for the same offense that has been committed by myriad Nigerians on different occasions.
The law enforcement agency only used the Naira abuse to get back to Bobrisky for his loose mouth and careless talk as a crossdresser. In my commentary published in The Nation Newspaper titled: “Bobrisky vs Portable: a comic relief” I stated that Bobrisky should have ignored portable rather than engaging in a war of words. Bobrisky’s response to portable during ruckus beamed the searchlight on him. He spoke blatantly with full confidence as one who is far above the law and who cannot be held responsible for any of his actions. Portable made Bobrisky to dare security agencies, and he presented himself as someone who is above the law with all connections. His face-off with portable attracted the agency to show him the power of government.
The Ajakaju movie premiere was a hit in the media with the publicity stunt pulled by the Eniola Ajao. Eniola Ajao used the two shameless celebs to achieve her goals and swiftly switched attention to Portable after Bobrisky was already in custody. Bobrisky paid the price directly or indirectly. The title of the movie befits the drama that follows it since its premiere. I hope Bobrisky will learn and control his public conduct when he comes out. The movie that sent him to Kirikiri is still selling fast. Life goes on.
