Borno State Government has pledged to address the growing number of unaccompanied children entering the state, following a key meeting of the State Security Council on Monday.

Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, said the council, chaired by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, had agreed on measures to tackle the issue.

“The council has made important decisions to address the security challenges in our state, particularly the influx of unaccompanied children,” Prof. Tar said.

According to him, only children with identified parental care will be allowed to enter the state capital, to reduce the number of unaccompanied minors.

The state government has also promised to support security forces in maintaining law and order and to speed up the prosecution of arrested suspects.

A robust juvenile justice system will also be developed to address the issue, Prof. Tar added.

The public has been urged to support the security forces with information to maintain peace and stability in Borno.
