The prices of bread, one of Nigeria’s staple food items popular among both children and adults, have gone up beyond the pockets of the common man in Kano, Tribune Online investigation reveals

An investigation carried out in the ancient city of Kano indicated that the price has increased by about 20 per cent.

A loaf of bread earlier sold for N250 now goes for N300 while those formerly sold for N400 are now being sold between N500 and N600.

According to a baker in Sabongari, “This is not our fault, it was due to the high price of flour and other ingredients needed to bake the bread.”

However, a Kano resident who gave his name as Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, while lamenting the hike in prices of bread, said that bread is the most essential thing he used to buy for his children.

He added that but since the price has gone up, he has decided to buy whatever his money can afford.

However, many people who were interviewed, stated that the federal government has to take urgent action to find a lasting solution to the hike in prices of food items in the country.
