THE Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has identified with Nigerians over the increased fuel pump price that has further deepened hardship in the country.
BSN at the press conference ahead of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) Forum, slated for October 21 to 24 in Abuja, with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu in attendance, urged Nigerians not to be silent but ask questions and insist the refineries start working in order to make life bearable.
General Secretary/Chairman Executive Officer (CEO) of BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi said past and present leaders of the country owe the citizenry an apology over the refineries that have not refined fuel for over 20 years despite the huge amount spent on unending turnaround maintenance.
He insisted that they mean an apology for the injustice by making things work with discontinuing the exportation of crude and the buying back of refined products.
We identify with Nigerians over the current hardship caused by the hike in the pump price of fuel.
“If not for selfish interest, this act would not have continued unchecked for so many years. I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to write his name in gold by doing whatever he can to make our refineries work and stop further importation of fuel which is a major part of the reason why our Naira is weak because of the consistent pressure on the dollar for imports. Let him right the wrong done to Nigerians all years by not allowing the refineries to work.
“This is also a major contributory factor to the current high cost of living because the operating environment for businesses is not conducive making them to pass the rising cost to goods and services. I trust our speakers in this conference to do justice to the topics to create a paradigm shift and chart a new course for leadership with example, integrity and the fear of God,” he added.
