AFTER nearly 20 years away, Nollywood veteran Bukky Wright has officially announced her return to the Nigerian film industry. Having spent over 15 years in the diaspora, the iconic actress is making a bold comeback, ready to take on new roles and reconnect with her roots.

Wright’s return has already stirred excitement among fans and industry insiders. In what appeared to be a calculated move to regain her footing, she recently appeared in a comedy skit and paid a condolence visit to King Wasiu Ayinde over the loss of his mother.

These appearances have set the stage for her renewed journey in Nollywood.

In a recent interview, Wright opened up about her decision to return, describing her comeback as a permanent chapter in her career. Reflecting on her time away, she revealed her eagerness to dive back into the industry, which has evolved significantly since her departure.

“It felt really good. It actually gave me the opportunity to see all these people again. I haven’t seen them in years,” she shared, expressing gratitude to director Bukola Ogunsola, who gave her a role in the newly released film Something About the Briggs. The project marked her official re-entry into Nollywood and reignited her passion for acting.

Despite taking nearly two decades off the screen, Wright remains confident in her abilities. For her, acting is more than just a profession—it’s an innate talent. “Although I take on minor roles, I’ll tell you one thing: if it’s inbuilt, then it’s inbuilt. Nothing can take it away from you,” she said, reaffirming her dedication to the craft.

Her performance in Something About the Briggs has already garnered praise, with many applauding her seamless transition back into acting. The role serves as a testament to her enduring talent and ability to adapt to the demands of a modern Nollywood.

Far from a fleeting appearance, Wright has vowed to remain in Nigeria and take on more projects. “I’ll stay. I’m going to do more movies in Nigeria here during my stay. I have more projects coming, and I’m here to stay,” she revealed, reassuring fans of her commitment to making a lasting impact.

Wright acknowledges the vast changes in Nollywood since her departure, including advancements in storytelling, production quality, and global recognition. However, she remains confident that her wealth of experience and deep love for acting will allow her to thrive in this new era.

Reuniting with old colleagues has been one of the highlights of her return. Speaking fondly about the camaraderie she has experienced, Wright described the warmth and joy of reconnecting with familiar faces after so many years.
