The Students’ Union President of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Comrade Ajibade Kehinde Daniel, has raised concerns over the declining quality of education in Nigeria, attributing the downturn to the lack of effective oversight on the operations of educational institutions.

Speaking on the state of academia in the country, Comrade Ajibade lamented that many institutions now operate without proper checks and balances, leading to a significant drop in the standard of education received by students.

“Education is the bedrock of any nation’s development, yet in Nigeria, we continue to witness a disturbing decline in quality. Institutions operate unchecked, policies are implemented without thorough evaluation, and students are left to bear the brunt of an ailing system. Without stringent oversight, the essence of academic excellence is being eroded,” he stated.

He further stressed that poor supervision has given room for inefficiencies, substandard teaching methods, and infrastructural decay, all of which negatively impact students. According to him, the lack of government intervention has allowed educational institutions to prioritize revenue generation over quality learning.

“We cannot fold our arms while the foundation of our future is crumbling. The government must rise to its responsibility by strengthening its regulatory functions, ensuring institutions adhere to set standards, and putting mechanisms in place to evaluate their performance regularly,” he urged.

Comrade Ajibade called on relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Education and accreditation bodies, to be more proactive in enforcing compliance with academic standards. He emphasized that students deserve a system that guarantees them not just certificates but also knowledge and skills that meet global standards.

In conclusion, he charged both students and stakeholders in the education sector to collectively demand accountability and reforms, insisting that the future of Nigerian students must not be sacrificed on the altar of negligence and poor governance.
