Persistent high blood pressure causes the heart to work harder to pump blood through the arteries, which can lead to thickening and stiffening of the arterial walls. Elevated pressure can damage the inner lining of arteries, leading to atherosclerosis (buildup of plaque), which narrows and hardens the arteries and reduces blood flow. Over time, the added strain on the heart can cause it to enlarge or thicken, potentially leading to heart failure or other complications.

High blood pressure contributes to the formation of blood clots and can rupture weakened arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Chronic high blood pressure can damage the kidneys, which further complicates heart disease and can lead to kidney failure.

Other early warning signs and risk factors for heart disease include: Diabetes: Having diabetes or prediabetes significantly increases the risk of heart disease. Obesity: Excess body weight, especially around the abdomen, can increase heart disease risk.  Sedentary Lifestyle: Lack of physical activity can contribute to weight gain and poor cardiovascular health.

Unhealthy Diet: Diets high in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, and sodium can lead to heart disease. Smoking: Tobacco use damages blood vessels and contributes to heart disease. Family History: A family history of heart disease can increase your risk, indicating a genetic predisposition.

Chronic Stress: Persistent stress can negatively impact heart health.  Sleep Apnea: Untreated sleep apnea can lead to high blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues. Managing blood pressure through lifestyle changes, medication, and regular monitoring is essential to reduce risks and protect heart health.
