Former governor of Enugu state, Chimaroke Nnamani, has lost his senatorial bid to Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party (LP).

In the result sheets seen by Peoples Gazette, Mr Nnamani scored 48,701 votes while Mr Chukwu polled 69, 136.

The election, which was supposed to hold on March 25 as part of the 2023 presidential and national parliamentary elections, was postponed to allow the LP to elect a replacement for Oyibo Chukwu, the party’s senatorial candidate for the district, who was gruesomely murdered days to the election.

Mr Chukwu was replaced by his brother, Kelvin, who according to several pundits, will now actualise his brother’s dream of retiring Mr Nnamani who had desperately sought to maintain his political base.

Mr Nnamani had been suspended by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for engaging in anti-party activities.
