The Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched an initiative to empower 27 youths from across Nigeria with skills to provide local solutions to internet connectivity gaps.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, National Coordinator of CITAD Community Network, Alhaji Haruna Adamu, emphasized the program’s goal: “Bridging the connectivity gap in underserved and unserved areas.”
The trainees will become community-level experts, deploying and managing their networks. They will learn to engage services, deploy solutions, and provide equal access to network services.
Adamu highlighted the prevalence of connectivity issues, even within Kano metropolis. “Digital justice demands equal access to networks. Local solutions are crucial.”
CITAD’s approach focuses on knowledge sharing, linking trainees with service providers and donor agencies. Adamu explained, “We provide knowledge, resources, and collaborations. Communities can offer land, materials, or expertise.”
The programme seeks partnerships with organisations like the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum, service providers, and international bodies to support network development.
