The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has charged Chief Registrars, Heads of Judicial Service Committees/Commissions, Deputy Chief Registrars, Directors and Deputy Directors to uphold the code of conduct for Court staff for better service delivery.

The CJN, who gave the charge on Monday while declaring open a hybrid national workshop organised by the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja, also urged Court staff to shun all forms of corrupt practices that could bring the Judiciary into disrepute.

According to Justice Ariwoola, a cordial relationship between Chief Registrars, Head of Judicial Service Committees/Commissions, Deputy Chief Registrars, Directors and Deputy Directors with Judges in their respective courts will improve justice delivery in the country.

He charged them to be respectful, cordial and transparent in their dealings with the Judicial Officers, who depend on their services adding that, “Cooperation is key; ensure that you lighten the burden of the Court by performing your duties efficiently and in line with global best services”.

Considering the multifaceted nature of justice administration and many innovations, the CJN re-emphasized the relevance of information and communication technology (ICT) in court management and administration.

He said, “ICT penetrates all aspects of life and when properly utilized, it can be a powerful tool to increase transparency, court efficiency and quality of services rendered by the courts.

“To promote the fiscally prudent and effective allocation of judicial resources, proper planning, budgeting and accountability in court management are essential.

“An equally crucial aspect of court management and administration is the management of confiscated assets and funds in court custody. When managing seized assets and funds, you must be accountable, professional and adhere to the provisions of the Proceeds of Crimes Act 2022”, he added.

Earlier in his address, the NJI Administrator, Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi, said efficient management of courts is of utmost importance to every society, hence the need for consistent training of staff, who have been charged with the duty of ensuring its administration.

He said as society evolves, it is necessary for court services to be in tandem with its development in order to meet with modern-day realities.

The NJI boss said the theme of the workshop, “Nurturing high standards of performance for better service delivery” is strategic and carefully crafted to aid court managers in the improvement of court systems and services.
