THE Chief Imam of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Oyo branch), Sheikh Mikail Bolaji Adeyemo, has emphasised the importance of promoting love and unity in the society as tools for rapid development and progress.
Sheikh Adeyemo said this as the guest lecturer at the turbaning and merit award ceremony of the Molaba Muslim Community Central Mosque held recently at the Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School, Alagbon, Oyo.
The event, which also served as a get-together for the community, was attended by traditional rulers, religious leaders and Muslim personalities, including the Aare Musulumi of Oyo Town, Alhaji Tajudeen Kamarise; the senator for Oyo Central district, Dr Yunus Akintunde; and the member of the House of Representatives for Afijio, Oyo West, Oyo East, Atiba Federal Constituency, Prince Akeem Adeyemi.
Sheikh Adeyemo said Islam supports conferment of religious titles and awards to encourage individuals who exhibit devotion and uphold the tenets of Islam.

He explained that it was essential for such titleholders in the various mosques to prioritise the welfare of their imams and to support the execution of development projects.
The cleric called on members of Molaba Muslim Community Central Mosque to remain united and embrace equity in the cause of promoting Islam.
He urged the awardees to support the mosque to accomplish identified projects.
The chief host, Dr Mufutau Ayoola, said the mosque decided to honour the personalities following their contributions to the development of the mosque and the community at large.
Dr Ayoola, while appreciating groups and individuals for their support, admonished people to keep family ties as enjoined by Allah.
Some of the honorees, Alhaji Salawu Adetokunbo (Amir-ul-Mumini), Alhaja Rashidat Adegoke (Irawo Adinni) and Alhaja Sulat Opeloyeru (Iya Sunnah), said the titles bestowed on them would spur them to do more for Islam.
Earlier, the Chief Imam of Molaba Muslim Community Central Mosque, Sheikh Soliudeen Oladokun, said the event was meant to restore some of titles whose previous holders are deceased.
