The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL) announced that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is 40% cheaper than Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Nigeria.

Huub Stokman, Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited, made this statement on Thursday while commissioning 12 new CNG stations in Lagos and Abuja, aimed at reducing transportation costs in the country.

Stokman also revealed plans to launch over 100 CNG sites within the next year, including 16 sites from the NNPCL Gas Marketing and NIPCO Gas JV.

“CNG provides Nigeria with affordable alternatives to existing fuel products. It will be about 40% cheaper than petrol and, with continued investments, will become a significant part of our energy mix,” Stokman added.

The new CNG stations in Abuja are located at Airport Road, Kubwa, Gaduwa, Olusegun Obasanjo Way Zone 1, Dei-Dei, Duste-Bwari Road, and Gwagwalada. In Lagos, the stations are at Lateef Jakande Agidingbi, Mushin, Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Mobile Road, Apapa.

These CNG stations feature advanced technology, with a combined dispensing capacity of over six million standard cubic feet of CNG per day, serving approximately fifteen thousand vehicles daily. The stations are powered by gas-driven generators and aim to reduce carbon emissions.
