Controversial Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after being detained for five days.
Tribune Online reports that prominent Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju revealed on Tuesday that the singer, who was initially reported missing, had been arrested in connection with a petition filed by Grammy award-winning artist, Burna Boy.
According to Adeyanju, Burna Boy lodged a formal complaint of defamation and cyberstalking against Darlington, which led to his detention in Abuja.
Providing an update on the situation, Adeyanju confirmed late on Tuesday via a post on Facebook account that the singer had been released after meeting the bail conditions set by the police in Abuja.
Posting pictures with Darlington in his office shortly after the release, Adeyanju wrote, “Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore , super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voices for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for the professionalism today.”
Tribune Online reports that Darlington’s mother, Miss Queen, in a video on Tuesday, claimed that her son had been picked up by Burna Boy and his team.
She alleged that Darlington was arrested because of a video he posted online, in which he accused Burna Boy of being gay and sleeping with embattled U.S. rapper Puff Diddy in order to win a Grammy Award.
