A herbalist based in Osogbo, Osun State, Ifaseun Afolabi, and an Ogboni chief living in Ikirun, Ifadare Afolabi, were on Tuesday arraigned for killing 35-year-old, Ayoade Fasesan.
Also arraigned alongside the two were; Badmus Shakiru, Kabiru Adeleke, Maruf Oloyede and Oseni Mukaila, who were alleged of being complicit in the crime.
Arraigned on five counts bordering on killing, indecent interference with corpse, the prosecutor, John Idoko, told the court that Ifaseun and Ifadare conspired and killed the deceased on May 24, 2021 in Ikirun, Osun State.
Idoko also added that all the six defendants thereafter shared body parts of the deceased and took them into their possession.
The offences committed were said to be contrary to and punishable under Sections 324, 319(1), 517, 242 and 329A of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
Although all the five counts were read, the plea of Ifaseun and Ifadare, arraigned for murder were not taken, while the other four defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges bordering on conspiracy and indecent interference with corpse.
Chief A. O. Olodo, Taiwo Awokunle and Olugbenga Awoyemi, who had earlier announced appearances for Shakiru, Adeleke, Oloyede and Mukaila, applied for their bail, while Mr. K. Adepoju, stood for Ifaseun and Ifadare.
But Idoko opposed the bail application, saying if granted, the defendants might attempt to run away and evade prosecution.
In her ruling, the Presiding Magistrate A. Daramola, remanded the six defendants in Ilesha Correctional Centre and directed that the matter be moved to Ikirun Magistrates’ Court.
