Magistrate Felicia Sha’ba of Kwara state court has ordered that three dismissed police officers arrested over alleged killing of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin to be remanded in Correctional Facility, pending further hearing of the case in November.

The dismissed officers: Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel and Oni Philip, were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide over the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, allegedly shot by one of them on September 4, 2024.

The dismissed police officers had earlier faced internal trial within the command over the alleged killing of the student.

It would be recalled that one of the dismissed police officers, at a check point at Afolabi Olaoye Street, off Jebba road Ilorin, allegedly shot the deceased student on the right hand, from where he bled profusely.

Qoyum was said to have been shot after he freed himself from the three police officers over his alleged refusal to part with money demanded from him.

It was gathered that the student, had just completed his National Diploma (ND) programme in Electrical Engineering from the polytechnic and was said to be returning from where he went to purchase dresses to celebrate his convocation ceremony when the police officers accosted him.

Lying in the pool of his blood, colleagues of the shot student and other sympathisers reportedly rushed him to University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin where he later died after loss of blood as a result of the gun shot.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, consequently ordered the arrest and internal trial of the affected officers, who were later dismissed from service and charged to court.
