The Osun State Magistrate Court has remanded two persons, Oguntolu Tirinisiyu, 55 and Kehinde Segun, 37, for stealing bags of rice, demanding property with menace and stealing to the tune of N743,000.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatoba told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on the 28th of November 2021 at about 10:00pm at Sabo area, Ikire, Osun State.
He said the accused persons stole nine bags of rice, a cash sum of N500,000 and also demanded that the sum of N200,000 be transferred to a First Bank account number, 3055380295.
He said the total value of everything stolen amounted to N743,000, belonging to one Edward Taiwo.
The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9), 516 and 383 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.
The Defense Counsel, Olusegun Olatoye pleaded for bail of the accused persons and urged the court to grant the bail on very liberal terms.
The Magistrate, O A Daramola, however, remanded the defendants in Ilesa Correctional Centre pending a formal bail application.
The case was adjourned till February 1, 2022, for the hearing of a formal bail application.
