The High Court of Izzi Judicial Division, sitting at Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has sentenced a man to death by hanging for armed robbery involving a motorcycle and a phone.
The accused, Mr John Nwaloke, in a suit marked HIB/12c/2023, was charged with robbing one Mr Igboke Emeka at gunpoint of a Kymstone motorcycle valued at three hundred thousand naira (N300,000) and an Infinix phone valued at eighty-five thousand naira (N85,000) on the 6th of June, 2023, at Mkpumaakpatakpa Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
Having found Nwaloke guilty as charged, the High Court, presided over by Justice Ruth Okeh, sentenced him to death by hanging.
The judge declared:
“I hereby certify that at the High Court in Izzi Judicial Division holden at Iboko before Justice Ruth Okeh, Obumneme John Nwaloke was convicted for armed robbery contrary to Section 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Volume 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as applicable in Ebonyi State.
“The sentence of this court upon you, Obumneme John Nwaloke, is that you be hanged by the neck until you die. May the Lord have mercy on your soul.”
The charge reads:
“That you, John Nwaloke, on the 6th day of June 2023 at Mkpumaakpatakpa Agbaja, Izzi Judicial Division, did arm yourself with a gun and rob one Igboke Emeka of one Kymstone motorcycle valued at (N300,000.00) three hundred thousand naira and one Infinix Note 11 phone valued at eighty-five thousand naira (N85,000.00), and thereby committed the offence of armed robbery contrary to Section 1 (2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Volume 1, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, as applicable in Ebonyi State.”
