The coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Zamfara state have assured to carry advocacy and sensitization to relevant authorities the need for paid maternity leave, saying they are ready to advocate for the extension of 6 months paid maternity leave in the state.
The assurance was disclosed by the Zamfara state coordinator Scale Up Nutrition in Nigeria (SUNN) Kabiru Isah jangeru, at the end of a two day capacity building workshop on Advocacy strategy and budget tracking for CSO’S held at Jaiz hotel in Gusau the state capital.
The workshop was organized by civil society Scale Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) in collaboration with United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF) on Increase investment in nutrition in the state.
Kabiru Jangeru Zamfara state coordinator SUNN disclosed that Civil Society Organizations in the state were equal to the task, assured that they are ready to carry advocacy and sensitization for the extension of 6 months paid maternity leave to relevant authorities in the state.
“I assured you that civil society organizations in Zamfara state are now gear up to carry advocacy to policy makers, stakeholders on the extension of paid maternity leave to six months”.
He stated that with the present administration in the state, CSO’S were able to succeeded in making government to increase the budgetary allocation on nutrition through advocacy and meetings with relevant authorities in the state.
During the capacity building workshop, Program officer CS-SUNN Mr Ambrose Evhoesor highlighted the understanding policy landscape with relation to policy on the extension of paid maternity leave to six months, understanding the link between budget and nutrition .
