Former Senate Leader and Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has commended the dedication of the Nigerian Army for their vigilance and resilience in repelling terrorist attacks in the North East region.

Senator Ndume gave the commendation during his visit to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to a statement from his media office, the visit was aimed at assessing the military’s efforts in combating insurgency. The lawmaker also visited the families of those who lost their lives in a recent Boko Haram attack in Sabon Gari village, Damboa Local Government Area.

Checks revealed that the Defence Headquarters, through a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed:

“Following a large-scale attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Sabon Gari Community in Damboa LGA, Borno, joint air and ground forces neutralized over 34 terrorists during firefights. However, six (6) soldiers were killed in action during the encounter.”

During his visit to the Army formation, Senator Ndume, who was formerly the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, held a closed-door meeting with Major General Waidi Shuaibu, the Theater Commander of Operation Hadin Kai. He extended his sympathies to the Theater Commander and the troops, commending their bravery in the face of adversity.

His statement read in part:

“I deeply appreciate the unwavering commitment and sacrifices of our officers and soldiers in ensuring the safety of our communities. Your resilience is commendable, and we will continue to stand by you.”

After his session with the military, the former Senate Chief Whip visited victims of the recent Boko Haram attack in Sabon Gari, Damboa Local Government Area. During the visit, he interacted with affected constituents, empathized with their plight, and offered both moral and financial support to help them rebuild their lives.
