The Federal Character Commissioner from Oyo State, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, has advised Nigerian youths to desist from money rituals that are becoming rampant in society.
The former Chairman of Ido Local Government and State Commissioner for Education in the state, gave the admonition on Friday while receiving award of recognition for his meritorious public service by the Abadina College Old Students’ Association (ACOS).
Olowofela said: “When I was Oyo State Commissioner for Education, we mandated all secondary students to sing ‘Apalara’ in school everyday to always remind them that they must be hardworking and concentrate on their studies to avoid all the shortcuts youths of today use to make quick money.
“There is no shortcut to make money other than to face your studies. Those that are doing rituals are wasting their time. Aliko Dangote, the richest African man did not kill anyone to become who he is today. Don’t let anybody deceive by luring you into engaging in ritual killings.
“I didn’t attend Abadina College but today, I’m receiving an award of recognition from the old students and I am happy.
“When we started the School Governing Board (SGB), during the tenure of Senator Abiola Ajimobi ‘s regime, the School Governing Board and Old Students Association of Abadina College did so well and I’m using this opportunity to commend and urge them to keep up the good works they are doing.”
He, therefore, dedicated the award to the former governor of Oyo State, late Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi. According to him, the late governor chose him to serve in his government as Commissioner for Education, this among many other reasons earned him the award.
Olowofela, also appreciated the Oyo State governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, for deeming it fit to name the first Technical University in Ibadan after his predecessor.
