Dangote Refinery has confirmed it will formally withdraw its lawsuit against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and other oil marketers by January 2025.

This lawsuit aimed to revoke the fuel importation licenses of these entities.

According to Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, the issue began in June, but recent events, including President Bola Tinubu’s directive on crude oil and refined products sales in the Naira Initiative, have made the lawsuit outdated.

Chiejina clarified that no court processes have been served, and there are no plans to do so.

The parties involved have agreed to halt proceedings, and the matter will be formally withdrawn in court once it’s brought up in January 2025.

“Currently, the parties are in discussion since President Bola Tinubu’s directive on crude oil and refined products sales in the Naira Initiative, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council. We have made tremendous progress in that regard and events have overtaken this development.

“No party has been served with court processes and there is no intention of doing so. We have agreed to put a halt to the proceedings. Once the matter comes up in January 2025, we will be in a position to formally withdraw the matter in court,” he stated.

The Dangote Group reassured that no court orders have been issued, and there are no adverse effects on any of the parties involved.
