The Vice Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, has praised Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for allocating 31 percent of the state’s 2025 budget to the education sector.
According to him, “This is unique, as it has never happened in the history of Nigeria. Moreover, it even surpasses the UNESCO 25 percent requirement to be allocated to the sector by countries across the world.”
This commendation was contained in a statement issued by Malam Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, Deputy Registrar of Information and Public Relations at the university, on Wednesday, in which Prof. Yakasai described the allocation as unprecedented in the country’s history.
The Vice Chancellor also applauded Governor Yusuf’s education policy, especially his declaration of a state of emergency in the sector, urging all stakeholders to support the initiative to achieve its goals.
Prof. Yakasai highlighted the governor’s recent approval to complete the Dangote Hostel at the university, which had previously been damaged by fire, noting that contractors have already returned to the site. He also appealed to the governor to ensure the release of remaining claims and allowances owed to the university staff.
“More significantly, we commend him for his approval for the settlement of allowances, especially earned allowances owed to members of staff of the university, the release of funds for the NUC accreditation exercise, and subsequent approval for the construction of drainages on the campus,” he stated.
He further requested that the governor allocate “any available facility” within Kano to the university to serve as its city campus.
