Elders of Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), notably Chief Dapo Sarumi of PRIMROSE and members of the Movement, loyalists of Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, aka JANDOR, the party’s governorship candidate in 2023 election, and those of the Deputy National Secretary of PDP, Hon. Sentonji Koshoedo, have come together to revive and give direction to the party in the state ahead of 2027 General Election.
In particular, the concerned party elders at the weekend, in the statement made available to newsmen by Mr Gbenga Ogunleye, the Head, Media and Communications, met and established the Lagos PDP Elders
Council to achieve their aim and objectives, and appointed Chief Taiwo Kuye and Hon. Shamsudeen Arobieke as Coordinator and Admin Secretary, respectively.
Other members who would serve as trustees are: Chief C. O. Oshoba, Alh. Arilesere, Pa. Shakiru Oladunjoye, and Alh. K. Mohammed, among other party elders.
It would be recalled that members of the PRIMROSE movement led by Chief Sarumi were among the founding members of Lagos PDP.
According to the statement, members of the newly established Lagos PDP Elders Council expressed their reservation over the current situation of the party, pledging to revive the vision of its founding fathers, who included Sarumi and Chief Stephen Olukunle Bakare (Oluwalogbon Motors), among others, and chart winning ways for the PDP in future elections.
Speaking at the occasion, the coordinator, Chief Kuye, decried the incessant inability of the party to efficiently offer herself as the leading opposition party and the credible alternative to the ruling party.
He, however, assured that the party elders across the state, as represented in the newly established council, would rally other well-meaning members to synergise in serving as the conscience of the PDP in Lagos.
Also speaking, a prominent leader of the PRIMROSE movement, Alhaji Arilesere, reminisced on the history of the party and the aspirations of the founding members on how to lead Lagos State in the post-military regime era but quickly enjoined all members to embrace the politics of ideology rather than stomach infrastructure and pecuniary interest, which, he said, were the motives of some of today’s politicians.
