The Leadership of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has called on the Federal Government to deal with the masses directly and stop using the governors who divert monies and palliatives given to them to give to the people for their personal use and purposes.
This was even as the hunger protest was not held in Abia State.
According to the President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem and the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Okey Nwaoru in a statement, this will be a way of reducing the problems the youths are protesting against as the federal government’s efforts at addressing their agitation do not get down to them.
“We moved round the five states of the South East to ensure our youths do not participate in the protest march against President Tinubu’s Administration.
“Our people listened to our appeal and stared away from the protest because they believe in us as their true representatives that speak for them.
“The Nigerian youths are protesting because of high-level corruption and egocentric tendencies of our governors who are in office to represent themselves and families. We appreciate our people for being law-abiding and we urge them to keep it up.
“We call on the FG to look at the issue of reducing the price of fuel and other petroleum products so that the cost of living will be affordable for the common man”, the youths said.
Meanwhile, citizens of the state remained at home and did not participate in the planned protest.
While the streets were partially empty in the morning hours, banks were closed and some business concerns remained unopened.
As a result, therefore, the state was peaceful.
