An Oyo State High Court sitting at Ring Road in Ibadan, has fixed June 13, 2024, for hearing in a suit filed by a business woman; Morenike Adegbulu against three persons; Sure Etiquette Media Plus Ltd, Oriyomi Hamzat and Shamsudeen Adeola a.k.a No 1, over what she termed continuous publication of false, disparaging statements that she is evil.
Adegbulu in a suit delineated I/800/2023 brought pursuant to a Writ dated November 24, 2023, asked the court for specific declarations and orders.
She is asking for a declaration of court that the continuous publication of false, disparaging, damaging and prejudicing statements by the defendants that she is an evil and diabolic woman who stole and destroyed all of Shamsudeen Adeola’s property and livelihood on Oriyomi Hamzat’s radio programme tagged Kokoro Alate aired on Agidigbo 88.7 M amounts to defamation.
She also asked for an order of specific performance directing the defendants to retract the said defamatory statements with requisite apology to be announced on air on Agidigbo Fm and every other social media platform such as Facebook and Instagram where the radio station’s programs are broadcasted
Further, she asked the sum five hundred billion, one hundred and one million naira (N500,101,000,000.00), being special, general and aggravated damages for the injury, loss of reputation, character and commercial earnings caused her the by defendants defamatory publication on the defendants radio programme tagged Kokoro Alate aired on Agidigbo 88.7 FM
In addition, she asked the court for an order of Perpetual Injunction, restraining the defendants by themselves, privies, servants or agents from further harassing, inviting and casting spurious innuendos in respect of any invitation to her in respect of Shamsudeen Adeola’s alleged and contrived misfortunes as well as an order restraining them from further publication of such defamatory statements against her.
At the resumed hearing of the matter, counsel to the defendants had stated that they were not served processes and the court had ordered they are served and proof of service submitted before the next hearing of the matter.
She had also filed a sister case delineated I/775/2023 against Shamsudeen Adeola and Lateef Adeola, asking the court to declare that she is the lawful owner of Shop P74 at New Gbagi Complex via a letter of re-allocation of shop dated September 3, 1999 issued to Alhaji Adikatu Moradeyo by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Tourism, Oyo State
Also, she asked for a declaration that several acts of threats, disturbance and hindrance including illegally locking up the shop is an act of unlawful trespass and illegal destruction. Further, she asked for the sum of two million naira as general damages and an order of perpetual injunction restraining the duo and so-called elders of the market, from further trespassing or interfering with her shop
