Ahead of the local government election slated for July 13, 2024, in Delta State, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ayirimi Emami, has tasked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on free and fair exercise.

Chief Emami gave the charges in Warri, late Sunday while presenting campaign souvenirs as support to the party’s chairmanship candidates in Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West local government areas.

The APC leader in Delta South Senatorial District averred that provided the July 13 Delta State local government election was conducted in a free and fair atmosphere, the chairmanship and councillorship candidates of APC would breast the tape.

“If there is any election, our candidates are going to win. Therefore, we must all go out and campaign; if you don’t campaign, nobody will vote for you.

“I understand the fear of some of our supporters that the government doesn’t want to conduct elections, but wants to write the results.

“Rest assured that if there is any election, I am confident that our candidates will win,” he stated.

The Itsekiri chief urged the government to put everything in place to ensure a free and fair election as it has been advocating to justify the sincere call for state police and local government autonomy.

“It is instances like this that make us yearn for local government autonomy, to ensure local government elections are not controlled by the state government.

“If the states are advocating for state police and are also overseeing the state Independent Electoral Commission, they must ensure there is a free and fair election in all local governments in the state,” he reiterated.

The chairmanship candidates, Prince Francis Yonwuren (Warri South), Chief Samson Omamuli (Warri North), and Mr Mamamu Bene Youkore (Warri South West), in their vote of thanks, expressed their gratitude to Chief Emami for the privilege.

They assured the party members as well as supporters in Delta South Senatorial District of victory in the poll, promising to mobilise voters from the nooks and crannies of the senatorial district ahead of the election.
