A delegation of 250 market women from the 25 local government areas of Delta State were recently hosted by the wife of the state governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.
This is the first time the group was hosted at the Government House by an incumbent governor’s wife, as the meeting was specifically organised to show appreciation for the women’s support during the election of her husband, Sheriff Oborevwori, as governor of the state.

Addressing the female traders, Mrs Oborevwori, who is the founder of You Matter Charity Foundation, disclosed that the get-together will be a continuous affair to foster bonds and establish first-hand interactions with them.
“I thank God for His mercies, for giving us the privilege to see after the campaigns and the general election. Thank God for giving my husband the mandate to preside over this state. This victory would not have been possible if you had not given us your support
“The aim of this event is beyond meeting and greeting. It is to let you know that traders in the state mean so much to me and I value them. Also, this event is to act on what I said during the campaigns that we will meet very soon to appreciate and establish a bond with you. To God be the glory, it has come to pass, and we will continue to celebrate as God gives us the opportunity,” she said.
While encouraging the women to remain resolute in their support for the administration, she expressed confidence that her husband’s MORE agenda “is for the good of the people of the state and I am certain that we will reap the full benefits of democracy if we support this administration.”
Oborevwori used the occasion to introduce the women to her pet project, assuring that it has a lot in stock, especially for those at the grassroots.
“The scope of the ‘You Matter Charity Foundation’ ranges from health care delivery system to education, women empowerment and community impact. We have started the journey, I invite you to join the train,” she said.
The governor’s wife urged them to improve their businesses with the knowledge gathered from the training session and stressed that they should be an agent of change in their places of assignment, be ambassadors of the state and put God first in all they do.
Earlier, the Director-General, You Matter Charity Foundation, Lawrentta Ogbedo, had appreciated the women for turning up en masse for the event.
She recognised the role played by the group during the governorship election and commended them for believing in the mandate of the governor.
A sermon by the assistant chaplain, Government House Chapel, Asaba, Pastor Solomon Nathanael, enjoined the women to maintain integrity in their trading activities and strive to be good wives and mothers in their various homes.
In a remark on behalf of the women, the President-General, Market Women Association of Nigeria, Delta State chapter, Chief Kate Okoh Onah, commended the governor’s wife for keeping to her promises.
She reiterated the commitment of the women to the administration of the governor even as they look forward to more dividends of democracy from his administration.
The highlight of the event was the investiture of the wife of the governor as the mother of market women in the state by the group.
