The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced the process of amending the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law and this may pave the way for the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, to return to his seat as Emir of Kano

It will be recalled that in 2019, the Kano State House of Assembly approved the creation of four additional emirate councils, bringing the number of first-class emirs in the state to five.

The Kano emirate was divided into five different emirates with the creation of Rano, Karaye, Gaya and Bichi Emirates and the appointment of first-class Class Emirs for the new emirates, eventually culminating in the deposition of then-Emir of Kano.

However, on Tuesday, the Majority Leader and member representing the Dala constituency, Hussien Dala, moved the motion to amend the law during plenary

Also, the motion was seconded by a member representing Dawakin Shu’aibu Rabi’u.

It will also be recalled that in September 2020, KNHA passed the emirate council amendment bill 2020, which made provisions for the Emir of Kano to serve as the chairman of the Council of Chiefs, putting the issue of rotation to an end.
