Despite the confusion created by the grounding of activities nationwide and the subsequent shutting down of flight activities and other businesses in the aviation sector by the ongoing strike of the organised labour, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has declared the country’s airspace safe and remains open.
In a short statement put out by the agency to allay the fears of air travellers about the safety of flight operations, the agency responsible for clearing aircraft landing and take off in the country maintained that the labour strikes will not in any way affect operations.
The statement reads: “The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) hereby assures the general public and airline operators that the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has not in any way affected the operations of the agency as contingency arrangements have been put in place for the processing of flight operations in the five major airports in Nigeria which include Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu.
“The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency will continue to provide its services to airline operators in spite of the ongoing strike action, in keeping with the agency’s mandate to provide uninterrupted, safe, efficient, and economic air navigation services in the country.”
