Digital blood pressure monitors can sometimes be less accurate than manual ones. They may not be calibrated correctly, leading to incorrect readings. Manual blood pressure measurements, when performed correctly by a trained healthcare professional, are generally considered more accurate. Incorrect usage of the digital blood pressure monitor, such as positioning the cuff incorrectly or not following the instructions properly, can result in inaccurate readings.

Manual measurements are often conducted by trained professionals who ensure proper technique, reducing the likelihood of errors. Digital blood pressure monitors can malfunction or be affected by external factors such as electronic interference or battery issues, leading to inaccurate readings. Manual blood pressure measurement devices, being simpler in design, are less prone to technical malfunctions. The cuff size used with a digital blood pressure monitor might not be appropriate for the individual’s arm size, leading to inaccurate readings.

Manual measurements usually involve selecting the correct cuff size based on the patient’s arm circumference, ensuring a more accurate reading.  Blood pressure can vary throughout the day due to factors like stress, physical activity, or even recent food or caffeine intake. It’s possible that the readings taken by the two types of monitors were done at different times or under different conditions, leading to discrepancies. Some individuals experience elevated blood pressure readings in medical settings due to anxiety or stress, a phenomenon known as white coat hypertension. Digital monitors, being less affected by observer presence, might be more prone to detecting this elevation compared to manual measurements.

Conversely, some individuals have normal blood pressure readings in medical settings but elevated readings outside of these settings, a condition known as masked hypertension. Digital monitors may be more sensitive in detecting these variations compared to manual measurements.

In conclusion, while digital blood pressure monitors offer convenience and ease of use, they may not always provide as accurate readings as manual measurements performed by trained professionals. It is essential to consider various factors when interpreting blood pressure readings and to follow up with a healthcare provider for further evaluation if there are significant discrepancies between digital and manual readings.
