Ondo Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON has warned corps members to refrain from joining local politics at their respective Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs).

He equally charged them to ensure that they contribute their quota to the development and cohesion of Nigeria.

The Executive Governor made the charge in his address during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) orientation course.

The Governor, who was represented by the Chairman, Ondo State NYSC Governing Board, Otunba Bamidele Ologun said that the value of patriotism, integrity, hard work and unity should remain their focus.

“Gentlemen corps members, the three weeks orientation course programme that you actively participated in is designed for all of you to contribute meaningfully to the overall development of this great country as you go to your various places of primary assignment”.

He enjoined them to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of Ondo State, hoping that they would not disappoint the residents and citizens of the country who have implicit trust in their capabilities to serve the nation relentlessly.

The governor expected them to cultivate a healthy relationship with their host communities and learn about their culture and ways of life.

“There is need for you to integrate and appreciate the culture and traditions of the people, while at the same time encouraging you to live peacefully with them and refrain from participating in local politics”.

“As mirror of the society, I admonish you to impact positively on your host communities and transfer the knowledge acquired during the skill acquisition training to better their lots and stem the tide of youth unemployment in the society” he counseled.

Akeredolu assured the members of the service corps that his administration will see to their excellent hospitality by the government and good people of Ondo.

He pronounced that the state will ensure that the security and welfare of corps members deployed to the State received priority attention while urging them to be security conscious at all times.

Highlight of the programme was the recognition accorded to an NYSC staff, Mr Gbenga Onijingin and the Head, Man ‘O’ War, Mr Adesola for being the Best Camp Officials under NYSC and NON-NYSC categories respectively.

The orientation course which commenced three weeks ago had about 1500 corps members converged on the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko for a series of leadership training, skills acquisition, drills, sports, lectures and other exciting programmes and activities for the patriotic Nigerians.
