The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade has appealed to youths in the state to shun any form of drug abuse and social vices, for them to be a success in life.
Oyelade made the call during a children’s day programme organised by a non-governmental organisation founded by Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on local government and chieftaincy matters, Mrs Ramota Agberemi-Dabo, held at the Akinyele local government secretariat.
Speaking, Oyelade cautioned the over 100 students present to bear in mind that drug abuse truncates vision for a great life.
He enjoined youths not to fixate their minds on being successful in life by being in politics, stressing that there are many professionals who live happier lives than politicians.
He said: “You can excel and be more successful and contented than the politician, provided you abstain from drug abuse and other emerging social vices.”
He particularly urged youths not to allow the vices and negatives of today’s digital world to distract them on their life’s journey.
Earlier, Mrs Ramota Agberemi-Dabo encouraged the students to remain committed to their education so as to make their parents proud.
She expressed her keenness to mould future leaders from a young age.
The event had in attendance students from select 22 government and private secondary schools in Ibadan.
