Former Senate President, Senator Ameh Ebute on Monday led certain leaders of the party from the North Central zone to the party national secretariat to congratulate the party national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje over the judgement given in his favour at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The suit was filed by the North-central APC Forum which sought the court to declare Ganduje’s ineligible to continue to serve as national chairman of the APC.
Ganduje’s ineligibility was premised on the provisions of Article 7(vii) and (ix) of the party’s constitution and the consensus reached at the 2022 National Convention held in Abuja, giving the seat to the North Central region.
Senator Ebute in incidentally from Benue State in the North Central region who led his colleagues restated their confidence in the capacity of Ganduje to continue to lead the party.
He said:”We feel we should be the first to come and congratulate you on your winning of the Edo governorship election for the party; for adding Edo to states controlled by the APC. We have no doubt in your ability to lead this party to a higher level.
“We are happy that the suit seeking your sack as national chairman was struck out. We are solidly behind you and we shall continue to support you to take the party to the next level. With these achievements, we believe 2027 will be a walk over.”
Speaking on his victory at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Ganduje said: “There is no doubt that claim was baseless and was treated by the court as such. We don’t fear such baseless litigations.”
On Edo election, he said, “The election of Saturday is an indication that our efforts are yielding results. Fighting an incumbent government is not easy.”
Also speaking while closing the situation room set up at the party’s national secretariat to monitor the just concluded Edo governorship election, the APC national chairman that his leadership would use the same strategy used to unseat the People’s Democratic Party in Edo State to consolidate its grip on Ondo state next November.
He said: “This exercise (Edo governorship election) was a difficult one because we competed with several obstacles. We had a governor (Obaseki) who was one of our own before. We are children of the same father, but with different mothers, all engaged in the contests. So we didn’t part well. We parted in pieces, and then he left our party for the PDP, where the fight continued until yesterday (Sunday) when we were able to reclaim the power.
“Even before the election, one side is already overheating the polity. He (Obaseki) said it is a do-or-die election. But we said ‘No’; our own would be do-and-succeed. This is because if you die, who will introduce your successor? So we are here to thank all the stakeholders.
“From what happened, we are going to use the result, the pattern of voting, successes and failures in different units to the APC institution, which is driven by knowledge. The South East has five states. But two of them belong to our big party, the APC. So we will see how we can recover many States in our favour. I now formally close (the Edo election situation room).”
The former Kano governor appreciated the various security agencies who participated in the election for maintaining law and order.
He also thanked the APC governors in attendance for showing solidarity with the governor-elect and for their strong support while the poll lasted.
