The family of  late Douglas Osunde in Benin City,  Edo State capital, have called on relevant authorities, seeking justice over the sudden death of their son.

They however denied attacking the family of one Uwadiae, who hails from Ugo Niyekhoronmwon Community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area in the state, over the death of their son Douglas.

Recall  that the Late Douglas Osunde, until his demise was said to be working for one Uwadiae Blessing as a building apprentice in Benin.

Reacting to the allegations, Tony Osunde, father of the deceased, said his son until his demise was an apprentice to the builder, but denied ever attacking Uwadiae’s family members over the death of his son.

He blamed the builder for the death of his son, accusing him of being negligent in his work which, according to him, led to a pillar falling on his son.

He said: “I am the father of the late Douglas who was an apprentice to one Blessing Uwadiae, a builder in Benin. It is true that my son is dead.

“According to his boss then, while they were working in the site, one of the pillars in the building fell on Douglas, leading to him being rushed to the hospital, before he eventually died.

“While we believe that Blessing was responsible for the death of our son, we want to categorically state here that we have never attacked his family members over the death of our son”, he maintained.

Osunde further informed that upon the confirmation that his son was dead, he immediately notified the Police over the incident.

He revealed that he became to suspect foul play when his son’s boss, who he said went to the bank to get money for the treatment, did not return back to the hospital after the confirmation that his son was dead.

“This act of Douglas’ boss triggered our reactions because we don’t believe that the pillar fell naturally on our son.

He, however, demanded justice for his late son, who he said left behind a son and wife, calling for the security agencies to arrest and prosecute their suspect over the death of Douglas.

“I am calling for justice for my son who painfully left behind a son and wife. We will continue to demand justice for his soul and not until this is achieved, we will not rest”, Osunde added.

However, family of Uwadiae had earlier alleged that they have been facing attacks from people they believed are from Osunde’s family over the death of Douglas each time their members visit Benin City

Speaking with newsmen in Benin City recently, Uwadiae Edorodion, claimed that his family members were attacked again recently, alleging that one Mr Osadebamwen, his younger brother, was severely injured by hoodlums he suspected to be from their accusers’ family.

He added that the victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital in Benin.

Asked if their son, the builder, is aware of their ordeals, the community leader answered in the negative, adding that they decided not to bother him with their ordeals, believing that he is still traumatised with the death of his apprentice, Douglas.
