As Nigerians await the result of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State with bated breath, the Director General of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Council, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, early Sunday morning said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would protest the outcome which he alleged was being skewed in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
While journalists and some party agents were waiting at the Conference Hall of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s office in Edo State to announce the results, protesters about 20 stormed the entrance gate of the Commission.
Iduoriyekemwen said the PDP was cruising home to victory but information filtered in that there were plans to mutilate the final results against the wishes of the voters.
The PDP Campaign Council DG also alleged that the leader of the APC in the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the reinstated deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu were thumb printing ballot papers to close the gap with which the PDP was leading.
“We will not accept this, we will contest it” he said as he led the protesters to the INEC office at about 2:27 am.
The small crowd of protesters was dispersed by the Police shortly after Iduoriyekemwen spoke to journalists across the barricade.
