Investigations by the I has revealed that residents of Effio-anwan street and Spat Avenue, both in Calabar South, Cross River State have begun to witness another phase of marathon armed robbery attacks on a weekly basis in the area.

The latest robbery attack was on March 11, at about 2:00 a.m.of a door-to-door invasion of residential apartments in the area where laptops, cash, phones and other valuables were carted away by the robbers

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the area had proved to be notorious for incessant robbery attacks until  the inauguration of joint security team called Operation Akpaku in the state, on December 3, 2020, by the state government.

The residents of the area told Nigerian Tribune that the operation of the security team, to some  extent, made the Effio-anwan street, Ekpo Abasi and Spat Avenue free of criminals, adding that the recent concentration on elections and withdrawal of the patrol teams from the area had increased the incessant robbery attacks in the area.

Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the residents are in danger as no security efforts are made to secure the area.

“They broke into my home at night, pointed three guns at me and were asking me “where is the money, where is the money”, but I had no money with me. So they took my phones and boom, and they went to my next neighbour, at that point, I could not make a call to the police,” a middle aged woman who was affected explained.

Another victim, simply identified as Mr. Steven said: “They broke my protector and pointed guns at me through the window and my friend opened the door for them to come in, they immediately searched our house, packed my laptop, our three phones  and jumped out to the next compound through our fence.”
