Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed confidence in his newly appointed Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), Mr. Samuel Avwerosuo Egube, describing him as the right person to continue from where his predecessor, the late Gboyega Soyannwo stopped.
Egube, the immediate past Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, whose appointment was announced on Wednesday by Governor Sanwo-Olu at the commissioning of 15 newly acquired boats, which took place at Badore, would be replacing Soyannwo, who died a few days ago and had since been buried.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Alausa, on Thursday, after the swearing-in, Governor Sanwo-Olu said Egube, the immediate past commissioner was assuming this position, with a distinguished record of public service, a deep understanding of the challenges being faced in the state, and a proven ability to lead in times of adversity.
This was just as the governor noted that the late Soyannwo was a cherished member of his cabinet, describing him as a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly to ensure the successful implementation of this administration’s programmes, and whose “loss has left an immense void, not only in this administration but in the lives of all who knew and respected him.”
“Though we mourn his passing, we are grateful for the indelible mark he left on this institution and on the lives he touched,” the governor said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, however, said that Egube, in the days, weeks and months ahead, would work closely with the Chief of Staff (CoS), Mr Tayo Ayinde, “to ensure the seamless continuation of our operations,” saying that he “will bring his strategic vision, his collaborative spirit, and his unwavering commitment to good governance to bear on the pressing issues we must address.”
“As we embark on this new chapter, and rededicate ourselves to the principles of integrity, transparency, and unwavering dedication to the greater good that have always defined this office, it is my pleasure to welcome Mr. Samuel Egube on board once again.
“As I congratulate you, and also thank you, for your acceptance to serve, the good people of Lagos State in this new capacity, I look forward to the contributions you will make in the months and years ahead,” the governor said.
Speaking after the swearing-in, Egube expressed his appreciation to God and Governor Sanwo-Olu for deeming it fit to appoint him to the position, assuring the governor and the cabinet members of his resolve to deliver the assignment handed over to him with dedication and competence for the advancement and pride of people of Lagos State.
