The Igede-Ekiti community in the Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of Ekiti state has announced a plan to launch a N500 million development fund to enhance infrastructural growth in the ancient community.

The Chairman,Igede-Ekiti Day Celebration Planning Committee, Dr. Sunday Oluyemi said that the development fund would be launched during the community’s Day celebration slated to hold on October 26, 2024.

He stated this on Tuesday in Igede-Ekiti at a press conference heralding the 2024 Igede-Ekiti Day celebration and launching of the N500m development fund.

Oluyemi added that the money realised would be channelled towards the execution of various projects and programmes that will have positive impacts on the lives of the people of the ancient community.

He called for the support from eminent sons and daughters of the community as well as well-meaning Nigerians to raise N500m for infrastructural development and socio-economic growth of Igede-Ekiti.

Oluyemi said that this year’s celebration which will have top government officials and captains of industries in attendance is not just for merrymaking but also am opportunity to showcase the community cultural heritage and the unity among the indigenes.

He added that the weeklong event will witness array of events including cultural display, indoor and outdoor games, free free medical outreach, quiz competition, beauty pageant, dinner and award night among others.

He said, ” This year’s Igede Day will bring all Igede sons and daughters together. We share things together and through that, we are able to know our basic needs in terms of assisting our younger ones and bringing us together.

“It strengthens our unity and the four quarters in Igede-Ekiti will meet to share things together. Since 1989, we have been having Igede-Ekiti Day and through that, we have achieved a lot.”

He disclosed that the Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele will serve as the Chairman of the occasion while the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji will be the Special Guest of Honour, among other dignitaries.

The Chairman further revealed that some prominent Igede-Ekiti indigenes would be conferred with honourary chieftaincy titles for their immense contribution to the development of the community.
