Eko Club has been commended by the Founding Elders Forum of the club for its efforts in promoting social, cultural, and intellectual growth which have nurtured talents and celebrated the city’s diversity, for future generations, saying that the club has made fantastic progress since inception.

Former Honorable Justice Ibrahim Olorunnibe (rtd.), who is also the Chairman, Founder’s/Elders Day to mark the ongoing activities of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the club, gave this commendation while speaking at the event, which took place at the weekend in Surulere, Lagos.

Olorunnibe said the club was created to assist the people of Eko towards promoting and preserving the Culture, alleviating poverty, contributing towards social development of Eko, and promoting healthy living, and commended its sense of patriotism and citizenship to the massive development and growth experienced in the once upon small land of Eko Club in Surulere, that had now grown to be full of gigantic buildings and edifices.

“Eko Club at 50 is a great feat and I give glory and thanks to God. As of 1974 when the club was being established, nobody would have known that this day would come.

“Eko Club is fifty years, this is great. Glory and thanks to Almighty God.
Over the years, the whole world, Nigeria inclusive is passing through critical period- take Ebola, COVID-19, banditry, kidnapping etc – with great loss of lives for a corporate bodies like Eko Club to pass through these events successfully and admirably. It seems appropriate for us to roll out drums,” Olorunnimbe said.

He, however, urged Eko Club to invest more positively in education for it to make more impact on society.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Club, Mabinuori Gbajumo, also went down memory lane on how the club was formed 50 years ago, especially concerning its vision and mission, declaring that the club, from inception, had been destined to be great.

According to him, the aim and vision of the founding fathers have come to fruition, and even surpassed, expressing gratitude to God and “kudos to the present executive and the past ones for not derailing but continually building on it.”

He, however, prayed that the club shall not derail but continue to wax stronger in all spheres.

Secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG), Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, who was represented by Mr Kehinde Gbajumo, in her goodwill message, congratulated Eko Club on its 50th-anniversary celebration and the laudable achievements recorded so far.

She enjoined members not to relent in the pursuit of the noble objectives of the club.

In his closing remarks, President of Eko Club, Razak Olugbenga Amodu, said the club had made numerous contributions to the cultural tapestry of Lagos State through its various empowerment programmes.

He, therefore, commended past and present members, whom he described as great men of honour and integrity that had contributed immensely to the growth and development of Eko Club.

Amodu emphasized that the current executive under him had done their best to lift Eko Club to a high standard, assuring that the body shall not rest on its oars to take the club to greater heights.

“The current executive has done their best to lift Eko Club to high standard and we shall not rest on our oars to take the club to greater heights,” Amodu said.

The event later witnessed the cutting of the 50th Anniversary celebration cake.
