A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Mallam Suleiman Salisu, has lashed out at former governor Nasir El-Rufai over his recent criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He described the remarks as hypocritical and lacking in moral weight, saying, “You can’t light a fire, walk away, and then return pretending to be the firefighter.”

Speaking with news men on Saturday, Salisu expressed disappointment, accusing El-Rufai of failing the people during his eight-year tenure, especially in Southern Kaduna.

“Go to the southern part of Kaduna metropolis dominated by Christians. El-Rufai completely did nothing in the provision of infrastructure, roads, and social amenities—as if they are not part of the state,” he said.
Salisu also referenced the insecurity that plagued Kaduna under El-Rufai, particularly the surge in kidnappings and killings in areas like Birnin Gwari, Kafanchan, and Zangon Kataf.
“Are you talking of how many Nigerians were killed or kidnapped? The governor did nothing to provide tangible solutions to the people,” he added.
He expressed frustration over El-Rufai’s current posture as a political critic. “Today, the former governor is everywhere speaking as a saint, condemning the present administration, and Nigerians believe these are the types of politicians that should take over leadership?” he asked.
Salisu urged Nigerians to reject leaders who sowed discord in the past and are now presenting themselves as redeemers.
“Nigerians must wake up from their slumber and sincerely look for those that would salvage the country from selfish politicians,” he warned.
