A devastating incident occurred in Kwarau village, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Saturday morning, resulting in the loss of four lives due to electric shock caused by high voltage.
The incident happened around 6:40 am, with residents attributing it to a fallen cable from high-tension power lines that affected their transformer, leading to a surge in voltage.
Councillor Mohammed Rabi’u Kwarau, representing Kwarau Ward at Igabi LGA Council, confirmed the tragic deaths and called for immediate attention from authorities to address the persistent electrical issues in the community.
He noted that this is not an isolated incident, as similar high-voltage occurrences have been reported in the past.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy that claimed the lives of four of our people—three males and a teenage girl. The high tension led to high voltage electricity in most houses, resulting in the deaths,” he said.
Also, the village head of Kwarau, Umar Rufai, described the incident as unfortunate and urged the authorities responsible for the electricity supply to compensate the victims’ families.
“The families need compensation because this was not their fault. The incident occurred while people were at home, leading to their deaths and also affecting some animals,” he said.
