Residents of Yalwan Juga and its neighbouring communities have been advised to embrace initiatives of Agro-Climatic Resistence in Semi Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) for the overall benefits and development of the community.

The advice was given by the state project coordinator of ACReSAL, Dr Ibrahim Kabir.

Kabir was in Yalwan Juga community, Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State in another round of Community Revolving Fund (CRF) sensitisation.

While giving an overview of ACReSAL project, Kabir assured the community of the project’s readiness to intervene in solving the lingering challenges surrounding environment, agriculture and water that sprung up as a result of climate change affecting their community.

Speaking on Community Revolving Fund, Kabir said the soft loan will be revolved among groups of farmers in the selected communities.

He further stressed that members of the community should organise themselves through a registered farmers associations so as to access loan.

He added that the ACReSAL team will guide the community members on how to register their association, calling on women in the community to also leverage on the initiative.

Forestry Officer, Nasiru Abdu Umar, said that all environmental challenges affecting agricultural activities in the communities were man-made error caused by cutting down trees to make timber, charcoal or firewood.

He called on the people to imbibe the culture of tree planting to address the lingering challenges of water flooding, drought, soil erosion, desertification, among others

In their words of appreciation, the village heads of Juga and Dori, Mallam Dahiru Adamu and Hashimu Abdullahi Dori, who spoke on behalf of the communities, assured of their support to the initiative.
