Former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, on Monday, appealed to Nigerians to continue to struggle together with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the state of the nation and also encouraged them to engage in “Operation Feed Yourself”, to address the challenge of food crisis.

Osoba was the Guest Speaker at the second edition of the Nigeria Medical Association,Ogun State Branch, Leadership and Mentorship Conference with the theme “Leadership in Hard Times and the Audacity of Positive Change, held at the NMA House, Abeokuta.

The former governor noted that backyard farming or gardening in a way would go a long way in resolving the challenge of food scarcity in the country.

He equally advocated school farming being practiced in the good old days to promote food sufficiency, while attributing the challenge of the food crisis to the Boko Haram insurgency in the North.

“The situation is the country is tough and rough. I know that the times are hard. To feed is difficult among Nigerians. Five balls of tomatoes go as high as N500,N1000.

“The first major challenge of the food crisis is because of the food crisis because farmers can no longer go to their farms , especially in the North , because of terrorist attacks.

“We have to go back into farming, it is the only solution to this hunger crisis. America feed itself. We have to go into large scale farming as a nation.

“Nigeria is a blessed nation. Our soil is fertile, we need to grow what we eat. My wife and I have started practicing this in my house. We grow our spinach (ewedu); water melon; bitter leaf among others. We don’t buy some things from the market again. We eat what we grow. ”

Osoba also emphasised on restructuring of the country in a better approach devoid of killings, submitting that there are mountains of problems in the country.

“Those who think restructuring of Nigeria is against them will live to regret it, ” he added.

He admitted that corruption had been a major challenge affecting every strata of the country and hindering it to develop.

While adding that the country is at the lowest ebb because Nigerians have lost core values.

He urged leaders to be resilient, focussed, determined to handle situations in the best interest of the people.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of NMA, Dr. Kunle Ashimi, said the leadership and mentorship conference is the second in the series of the Association.

He noted that his two year in office recorded remarkable achievements in the history of the Association
