The Emir of Wase, Alhaji Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, has attributed the cycle of killings in Plateau State to a lack of political will on the part of previous leaders to implement reports of the commission of inquiries and punish people accordingly for wrongdoing.
Haruna said such unfortunate incidents might continue to fester if no one is held accountable and charged those in authority to take full charge of affairs under them to arrest the spate of killings.
The emir, who led the delegation of the Muslim Ummah to Governor Caleb Muftwang at the Government House, Jos, over the recent carnage in the state, assured the governor that Muslims in the state are with his government no matter the circumstances in which the state found itself.
“These crises have been happening for over 20 years on the Plateau and nobody has been held. There is a need to hold people accountable for their actions. And as the governor of the state, there’s nobody above you. People need to be held accountable for their actions. We cannot continue to live in this kind of world where people are being killed and properties are being destroyed daily.”
He implored the governor to engage and use the array of intellectuals that abound within the Muslim community in the state, adding that quite a number of them has not been tested and used accordingly.
Responding, the governor debunked the insinuation that he did not like the Muslims, adding that evidence on the ground is contrary to such sentiment.
“While some people have tried to malign me and suggest that I don’t like Muslims, the evidence on the ground is contrary, and I want to assure my Muslim brothers from the depths of my heart. I love you, and I meant well for you. God is the God of justice and fairness. I have never seen rain fall on the house of one man, and his neighbour was denied
“God allows rain to fall on everybody, and so, it will be foolish of me to deny you what belongs to you. There’s no need for that, and within the limits of the available resources, we will continue to ensure that we are fair to all
“Plateau is a land of peace. And all those who want to take away that testimony of the peaceful people from us, we’ll fight that. Thank God, the emir has given me permission today. All the enemies of peace will not survive on the Plateau. We will unite and ensure that those people who do not want us to live in peace, first of all, will not find peace
“So, we’re going to ensure that arrests are made, prosecutions are done, convictions are upheld, and that we will be able to show the rest of the criminals that criminality does not pay,” he said.
