Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on Christians to always rededicate themselves to God through fasting and prayers, especially as the new year begins.
Governor Eno handed down the charge on Sunday while addressing Catholic faithful of Uyo Diocese at Cardinal Ekanem Seminary Grounds, Dominic Utuk Avenue, where they gathered to mark the end of the year and pray for the New Year.
Speaking through the deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the governor noted that having ended 2024, it is pertinent for believers to pray and fast and commit the New Year into the hands of God, stressing that it is only through God that man can do anything.
While soliciting for continuous prayers for the state, the governor expressed love and admiration for the church, for its long standing tradition of discipline and orderliness, and further appreciated the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Uyo led by Bishop John Ayah for their prayers at all times.
Earlier, the Bishop of Uyo Catholic Diocese, Reverend Ayah, described the first Sunday service of 2025 as significant, marking the beginning of another year of jubilee to celebrate the solemnity of the Epiphany of Christ, which, according to him, marks the collapse of the walls of division and reconciliation of man to God.
The cleric called on everyone to embrace the essence of the gift of Jesus Christ to the world by shunning all divisiveness, discrimination, hatred and blames on God for difficulties and hardship; rather, Christians should reconcile with fellow men and take decisions and actions that will impact humanity positively.
