THE Federal Government has been commended for its significant achievement in ensuring the autonomy of the local government in line with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The Men Missionary Union of the Nigerian Baptist Convention applauded the conclusion of its 44th annual congress in Asaba, Delta State. However, it also urged the authorities to ensure that the funds allocated to the three tiers of government are used judiciously.

In a five-point communique signed by the Chairman of the group, Barr.Leke Olajide; Secretary, Barr. Olasunkanmi  Adefila and other officials across the country, the union said the federal government should put machinery in place to put an end to corruption, banditry, kidnapping, and wanton destruction of lives and properties in Nigeria.

The Baptist men bemoaned the suffering in the land as a result of food insecurity even as they urged the federal government to alleviate the situation.

The communique further urged the federal government to look into the economy of the country to ensure the stability of the naira as well as ensure that our future elections are credible, free and fair.
