Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved an N80,000 minimum wage for the state’s workers, which will take effect in October 2024.

He shared the announcement on his official X account on Thursday, emphasising the importance of this development for the workforce in Enugu.

“I have just approved a minimum wage of N80,000 for Enugu workers, effective October 2024. We appreciate the hard work and sacrifices of the state’s workforce and will continue to prioritise their welfare in line with our campaign promises,” he wrote.

This move follows similar decisions made by other states.

On Wednesday, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno announced N80,000 minimum wage for civil servants. Additionally, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu pegged the minimum wage at N85,000 for public sector workers on October 16, while Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara approved N85,000 minimum wage on October 18.

Recall in July, President Bola Tinubu signed a new minimum wage bill into law, raising the baseline salary for workers from N30,000 to N70,000.
