Manchester United have been charged with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves properly during a 2-0 win over Brighton on Tuesday.
The Football Association (FA) confirmed this on Wednesday.
United’s players angrily confronted referee Peter Bankes, who had initially handed Brighton’s Lewis Dunk only a yellow card after he grabbed Anthony Elanga’s shoulder in the 53rd minute.
Bruno Fernandes, who eventually scored the second goal of the game, was shown a yellow card for his protests.
Bankes was then advised to review the decision by the VAR, before he changed Dunk’s yellow to a straight red card after watching a replay on the pitchside monitor.
The FA noted that United have until Monday to respond to the charge.
